About Damariscotta Lake State Park

Damariscotta Lake State Park is a 588-acre public recreation area located in Nobleboro, Maine. It is centered on the western shore of Damariscotta Lake, a 3,853-acre freshwater lake known for its clear water and excellent fishing opportunities. The park’s geography includes rolling forested hills, wetlands, and several small ponds, creating a rich habitat for a variety of wildlife including moose, black bears, and numerous bird species. Established in 1970, the park provides visitors with a tranquil outdoor escape featuring a large sandy beach, picnic areas, and a boat launch that facilitates canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The park’s trail system spans several miles offering hikes through mixed hardwood and coniferous forests, with scenic views of the lake and surrounds. Winter months enable snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The park also provides family-friendly camping with over 60 campsites, including both drive-in and remote sites. Damariscotta Lake itself is noted for its healthy populations of lake trout, landlocked salmon, and brook trout, attracting anglers especially in the spring and fall. Visitor appeal is enhanced by the combination of water and forest recreation, coupled with peaceful natural surroundings away from urban bustle, making it a popular Maine destination year-round.
